About Us

Prodogi is a dog dental-care company founded by a board-certified veterinary surgeon — built around a simple idea: that the right ingredients only work if they actually reach the whole mouth.

Why Prodogi Exists

The Gap We Set Out to Close

Americans spend billions each year on canine oral health products, yet many dogs still struggle with the same oral-health issues year after year. Prodogi is a team of veterinarians and supplement-industry experts who came together around a belief that closing that gap would take a different approach — not new ingredients, but a better way to deliver the ones that already work.

In His Words

Why I Built Prodogi

Hey there, I'm Dr. Steve Mehler.

I've spent nearly twenty years at the intersection of clinical practice and supplement research. I'm a board-certified veterinary surgeon, but a big part of my career has been on the research side — designing studies, testing ingredients, and evaluating formulations of natural compounds and pharmaceuticals for dogs. Across all of that work, one condition stayed on my radar longer than any other: the chronic oral-health issues that affect the majority of dogs.

As a researcher, I had access to a tremendous amount of data — large studies, ingredient panels, and outcomes in real dogs. Research consistently pointed to a set of active ingredients with promising benefits for oral health: ones studied for their ability to help reduce harmful bacteria, support healthy gum tissue, and address the compounds that contribute to bad breath. The science on the ingredients was encouraging.

As a practicing veterinary surgeon, I was also seeing the other side of it. Pet owners came into the clinic doing everything they were supposed to — the chews, the powders, the water additives, the treats marketed as dental solutions. Their dogs' breath would improve, so they'd think the product was working. But we kept seeing the same dogs for the same issues. That disconnect stayed with me. You can't watch that play out, year after year, and not want to understand why.

Eventually, the research pointed to an answer — and it wasn't what I expected. The issue wasn't the ingredients. What the data kept suggesting was that those ingredients weren't getting enough contact time in the mouth to do their job. A chew gets swallowed in ninety seconds. A water additive gets diluted with the next gulp. A powder coats food, not teeth. In each case, promising active compounds were being delivered in formats that didn't give them much of a chance.

That was the insight that led to Prodogi. We wanted a delivery format that would hold the ingredients where they could work — across the teeth, gums, and the back-of-mouth surfaces other formats miss — and keep them there longer. That's where the strip came from. Our Slow Dissolve™ technology took years to get right: a small, palatable strip that dissolves slowly, distributes across the mouth, and continues to dissolve and distribute after you give it.

I give a Prodogi Strip to my own dog every day. It's easy, he takes it happily, and it's the first oral-care routine I've actually been able to stick with. Thanks for caring enough about your dog's health to read this far. Your dog is lucky to have you.
